A company in Labrador performing iron ore excavation and transportation hired Hugues Lavoie as a Health and Safety Advisor. His role was to develop or enforce the health and safety procedures for the extraction and transportation of the ore towards the crushing station that was operating 24/7. He also had to investigate and report to Arcelor Mittal on any accidents happening on site. Hugues also patrolled the mine, identifying any potential risks to the workers. To this end, he would hop on with drivers on different vehicles to have the same view as they did and at the same time had them fill out safety cards.
